Tempted To Cut It All Again

Left: January 2011. Right: November 2011.

I got a short bob cut two years ago on December 31 2010. My hair, which was growing into a long shoulder-length bob, was beginning to look all weird and awkward and I was dying to get a haircut. I even considered a haircut like this, but my mum wouldn't let me, so we agreed on the bob cut above. At the time, I had a huge obsession with short hair that went on for about two years. However, about two weeks after I got the haircut above, I realised that I really missed having long hair. And I'd just cut it.

So, for the past year in 2011, I've been trying to grow my hair
(don't get fooled by the photo on the right - I was wearing hair extensions at the time, but my real hair was about up to my collarbone). It's been working, I guess. I drink milk every night and I use that Sunsilk shampoo and conditioner that promises it'll make your hair grow faster. It's probably a scam, but I'm taking this mission to grow my hair quite seriously that I'm willing to do anything for it.

To get to the point, I love short hair. I love it. I love how effortless it is, I love how short hair can make you look cute but sophisticated at the same time, I love how it takes almost no time to even make short hair look good compared to long hair. I love how when the wind blows your hair, your hair doesn't get all tangled and go all over your face. I thought I would have short hair for the rest of my life. But after two years of the short hair obsession, by surprise I started missing long hair again. I would watch all these Youtube hairdo tutorials and wish I could play around with my hair like that whenever I'm bored. I wished my hair would look just extra special whenever I go out on special parties and special nights; my hair looked very similar at school as it did when I'd go to a birthday party with short hair.

So far, my quest for growing my hair's going good. I'm still growing it, and I'm just keeping my fingers, toes and eyes crossed that it'll grow AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. But this does not mean I've been tempted. I'd say I've been tempted about, four times, if I can recall? Whenever I'm reading a magazine or read stuff like this on beauty websites and I see someone with a cute bob cut or a pixie cut, I'm like "I'm still not that far from cutting my hair again. It's not that long yet. I can still cut it." But then I think "NO!" I've wanted this for ages now too. I see hair tutorials everywhere, wishing I could effortlessly do my hair in buns, braids, pretty ponytail styles, all that.

But hey, at least I'm not alone in this. Some of my favourite bloggers like The Glamourai and Chriselle Lim are on the same boat too. And when I read their posts about their temptations to cut their hair again too, I get even more tempted! I miss short hair too! But at the same time, I miss long hair! Before I took the plunge two years ago to finally cut my hair short, I was unsure whether it'd suit me because apparently girls don't usually suit short hair, and I've been told countless times that I do. I guess it could all come down to what looks better on me; short hair or long hair? I'm personally more into growing my hair right now, I've been working on it for a while now, and when I get tired of it and the whole doing-my-hair commitment, I can just cut it again. It's just hair anyway, right?

Anyway. I rain into this quote a couple of years ago and it pretty much summarises exactly why, despite how desperate I am to grow my hair, I still have a short hair fetish. I think girls with short hair are cute and it's a really refreshing look, too.
"With short hair you begin to crave pearl necklaces long earrings and a variety of sunglasses. And you brush your teeth more often. Short hair removes obvious femininity and replaces it with style. When it starts growing out a little and losing its style you have to wear sunglasses until you can get it to the hairdresser. That’s why you need a variety. Short hair makes you aware of subtraction as style. You can no longer wear puffed sleeves or ruffles the neat is suddenly preferable to the fussy. You eye the tweezers instead of the blusher. What else can you take away You can’t hide behind short hair… you may look a little androgynous a little unfinished a little bare… but your face is no longer a flat screen surrounded by a curtain: the world sees you in three dimensions."
― Joan Juliet Black

Seriously. Call me impatient, fine, but since my hair is still not the length I want it to be, but since it's not, should I just cut my hair again anyway or NO NO NO? (Right now, I'm 96% grow it and 4% cut it).

  1. Dude, I'm totally in the same boat. But I've decide that I want to grow my hair as long as Repunzels... okay, maybe not that long but you get the point.

  2. I have known you with short hair and you suit it heaps!
    But change never hurts
According to the photo, you aren't satisfied with your short hair anymore LOL! Also if you grow your hair you can always cut it short or just wear extensions like you did at formal :P
But grow it and if you don't like it cut it. It easier than the other way around :P

    1. Hahaha yeah I'm same as Haein's >< I'm gonna grow my hair too because Tammy has a point. I can just cut it short again when I get THAT bored with it.

Oh, and as a hair fixture instead of cutting my hair short again, I cut myself a front fringe :)
